SEPTEMBER
IS FUNDRAISING
'RESTAURANT MONTH'
The Bloomfield
Educational Foundation
is teaming up with
The Town Pub,
378 Broad St. Bloomfield
to help raise much
needed funds for the
Bloomfield Public School
District. The
manager of the Town Pub
approached the BEF and
asked how he could help
their cause and the
Bloomfield community.
Michael Sceurman, newly
elected Chairman, jumped
at the chance to get the
Town Pub involved with
the fundraising effort.
“We are always seeking
new and creative ways to
raise funds for the
students of Bloomfield”
said Sceurman. “When I
was approached by the
manager of the Town Pub,
I thought a restaurant
night would be a great
way to get Bloomfield
families out for a good
time and great food.” Rami
Korio, the manager of
the Town Pub went one
step further and
extended the special
menu and discounts for
the entire month of
September.
-
-
On Tuesdays, Wednesday,
Thursdays there are
specials and discounts
for participating
patrons as well as free
face painting for all
kids on Saturdays from
5PM to 8PM. A
portion of the proceeds
from those nights will
be donated back to the
Bloomfield Educational
Foundation to help
support their many
programs, grants and
scholarships.
All people willing to
participate in this
fundraiser should
DOWNLOAD FLYER
and present it when you
are at The Town Pub.

Centennial Committee
Seeks Volunteers and Bengal
Memories
By 1910
Bloomfield High School—now
the site of the district
administration building at
155 Broad—had become so
crowded that the township’s
fast-growing population of
students had to attend
classes in two shifts, with
afternoon sessions ending
after dark during fall and
winter months.
So it was
with great anticipation that
townspeople watched
construction across the
street of the new four-story
yellow brick facility,
designed by renowned New
York City architect Charles
Granville Jones, who had
supervised the building or
expansion of six other
district schools since
1892.
“When this
building is occupied,” one
local wrote, “the high
school will, for the first
time in its history, be
provided with all the
necessary facilities,
including lecture, study,
and recitation rooms;
physical, chemical, and
biological laboratories;
manual training rooms, a
gymnasium, and a large
assembly hall…admirably
adapted for public
gatherings of a patriotic,
political, or social
character.”
Now, one
hundred years later, another
group of 'Bloomfielders'
eagerly seek subcommittee
members to help prepare for
the high school’s 100th
anniversary, which will kick
off with a gala dinner at
The Villa, Route 46 East,
Mountain Lakes, on April
16th from 6:30 PM - 10:30
PM, and culminate
with special events planned
for the 2011 Homecoming game
on the district’s
newly-refurbished Foley
Field.
In additions
to volunteers for this
ambitious undertaking, the
Centennial Committee is
seeking pictures,
memorabilia and cherished
memories of the high
school’s one hundred years
of continuous service to the
community.
Those who
wish to join a subcommittee
or the Centennial mailing
list can contact the
