Michael Sceurman, Chairman of the Bloomfield Educational Foundation, congratulates BHS
Senior, Veronica Burnett, who penned the name of the BHS 100 Year History Book, “There’s a High School in New Jersey” honoring Bloomfield High School’s Alma Matter that was written by English teacher, A. Dixi Crosby in 1935.  For Veronica’s creativity she was awarded a free prom bid for her Senior Prom this June.

BHS History Book Title Winner Announced

The Bloomfield Educational Foundation recently celebrated Bloomfield High School’s 100th anniversary at their Annual Dinner Gala this past April.   The event, touted as “the reunion of all reunions”, definitely lived up to the hype having over 375 participants and graduates ranging from the class of 1936 through 2013.  Throughout the evening BEF board, members conducted various fundraising initiatives including a silent auction, a tricky tray, 50/50 and merchandise sales.   Many community minded businesses and BEF supporters contributed to the event’s advertisement journal.  When all was said and done the Bloomfield Educational Foundation raised over $30,000.
While the BEF will use these contributions to help fund various elementary and middle school programs, a portion of the money raised during the Centennial Celebration will go directly to Bloomfield High School for the P.S.A.T. grant initiated by the Principal, Chris Jennings.
“It is important for our students to know that higher education is possible for everyone.  By teaming up with the BEF and allowing each junior in Bloomfield High school to take the P.S.A.T. free of charge, it opens up new opportunities for our students,” said Jennings.
One of the new fundraising initiatives started by the BEF is the creation and sale of a commemorative book reflecting back on 100 years at Bloomfield High School.  This 112-page book looks back on various school activities, students, campus life, sports teams and current events of the past century.  It is a true keepsake for everyone who has a connection to Bloomfield. As a way for current Bloomfield High School students to get involved and embrace their school’s history, a group of students helped gather vital information for the book.  After months of research and the combined efforts of the BEF and the high school, the book was finally complete but one thing was still missing…the title.  As a special English project, every senior was asked to think of a title that would be suitable for such a special book.  Senior Veronica Burnett penned the title: There’s a High School in New Jersey honoring Bloomfield High School’s Alma Matter that was written by English teacher, A. Dixi Crosby in 1935.  For Veronica’s creativity, she was awarded a free prom bid for her Senior Prom this June.
If you are interested in purchasing the commemorative book, There’s a High School in New Jersey you may do so at the central office of Bloomfield High School or through the Bloomfield Educational Foundation’s website at www.bloomfieldeducationalfoundation.org.  Books are $10.00 each and checks can be made out to the Bloomfield Educational Foundation, a recognized 501 (c) - 3 organization.  Proceeds from the sale of this book, as well as other fundraisers ,will be distributed throughout the Bloomfield Public School district in the form of grants, scholarships, enrichment programs and technological equipment.

The boys and girls high school basketball teams were recently chosen to receive the Thomas Wachenfeld sportsmanship award. This award is chosen by the referees who officiate high school basketball in New Jersey.

Bloomfield, NJ  --  The Bloomfield Educational Foundation will be celebrating Bloomfield High School's Centennial Anniversary on Saturday April 16, 2011 at the Villa on Route 46 in Mountain Lakes, N. J.

Under the direction of BHS teacher, Theresa Montanino, twenty eight members of the senior class sold Yankee Candles commemorating this celebration of the 100th anniversary and chose to donate the proceeds to the Educational Foundation. This contribution will be used to fund an initiative that will allow each member of the junior class to take the PSAT's, next year at no cost to the student.

“"The success of this sale is a true testament to the pride and enthusiasm of Bloomfield students," says Centennial Committee member and sale advisor Theresa Montanino.  "Despite being consumed with completing college applications and/or fundraising for their own class, sports teams, or clubs, these seniors rose to the occasion in supporting this very important cause and celebration."

Principal Chris Jennings praised the partnership of students and the BEF in their "efforts to show all students that higher education is possible." Ms. Montanino, who is also a member of the Centennial Committee, stated that "the success of the sale is a true testament to the pride and enthusiasm of Bloomfield students".

Please join the large gathering of Bengals who will be enjoying the Centennial Celebration at the lavish cocktail hour and dinner that will feature open bar, Viennese hour and entertainment. Arrangements have been made for those who wish to stay overnight. Reservations are quickly filling up so please go to our website at www.bloomfieldeducationalfoundation.org. to sign up.

The Bloomfield Educational Foundation established as a 501(c) (3) organization is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience for all Bloomfield students.
