BEF Awards $70,500 in Scholarships

On the evening of June 3, 2026, BHS students, parents, and friends gathered in the BHS auditorium for the 2026 Scholarship Awards event, where 33 scholarships were awarded by BEF, totaling $70,500.

The BEF 2026 scholarships included the following awards:

The Class of ’65 Scholarships were established to support the educational goals of the graduating students at Bloomfield High School.

The F. James White “True Competitor” Award was established by his family and is awarded annually to a male or female student-athlete.

The Gay Gerber Memorial Scholarships is awarded in her memory, the Gerber family recognizing Bloomfield High School graduates who were also graduates of Fairview School.  These students have demonstrated involvement and commitment to their community, service-related organizations, and activities; effort in school-related tasks and have worked to meet their potential; and will be continuing their education at a college or other continuing education facility.

The Joseph Poniatowski Beneficial Association Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is continuing his/her education after high school and who is a model student, of high moral character and of Polish descent.

The Pascal Family Scholarships were founded in 2021 and funded by The Pascal Family Foundation, these scholarships are awarded to a graduating male and female senior who exemplifies the late Robert Pascal, a BHS alumnus, and The Pascal family’s commitment to the Bloomfield School system.

The Matthew Melucci Scholarship was established by friends and classmates of Matt Melucci in 2013 for a member in good standing of graduating class of Bloomfield High School; a candidate for post high school continuing education accepted and attending Rutgers, New Brunswick; a student who demonstrates financial need and has shown leadership abilities and expresses an interest in civic activities.

The Robert Fetterly Alumni Scholarship was renamed in Mr. Fetterly’s honor in recognition of his lifelong support and dedication to programs and activities of the Bloomfield Public Schools.

The Sheldon Seevak/Anne Itkin Ethics Award highlights the principle that people can be most successful and happy when they practice sound ethics in their lives.

The Sidney Itkin Scholarship was established by Harold Itkin, BHS ‘67, in honor of his father, in 2010.

The Theordore Jasieniecki Scholarships established by the family, The Theodore Jasieniecki Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a male and female varsity basketball player.

The Harry Moore ’58 State Championship Lineman Award was established by Harry Moore, Captain and right tackle who graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1958. This scholarship is presented to a BHS lineman each year in honor of Harry Moore who had dedication on and off the field.  Mr. Moore continues to contribute to his alma mater by attending and donating each year to the senior awards program at Bloomfield High School.

The William Foley Scholarship was established in 1960 in honor of Mr. Foley who was Head Football Coach for BHS from 1915-1951.

BHS Basketball Alumni Scholarships, established in 2023 by BHS Alumni Basketball players to help deserving students achieve their dream of a college education.

Bloomfield Senior Housing Corp. for Bloomfield Seniors Awards were established in 2023 by the Board of Trustees of the Bloomfield Senior Housing Authority, to support a hard-working student in need, who wishes to continue their education after their high school graduation.

Scott A. Mackler, MD, PhD True Grit Scholarship established by Scott’s family in his memory. Scott was a 1976 BHS graduate, and this scholarship recognizes a graduating senior who has overcome significant adversity in his/her life.  Scott battled Lou Gehrig’s disease for over 16 years while still maintaining his quality of life and professional career.

Class of ’75 Vocational Scholarships were established for a graduating senior who has demonstrated good citizenship by being active in Bloomfield High School and the community, who will further their education in a Vocational School and is the child or relative of a BHS graduate.
