At Bloomfield High, the thought of playing in a state playoff game in 1974 was certainly a possibility, especially after the 1973 Bengals had put together a marvelous team, which finished 8-0-1. The ’73 Bengals had played to a 7-7 tie on opening day, versus Seton Hall Prep, then won its next eight games.
Bloomfield would be named the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 champions, 51 years ago.
TK Tripucka was a junior on that 1973 squad, which was coached by Sam Cavallaro, and remembers well the excitement of what could be accomplished in 1974, with the advent of the playoff format.
