June 2026 Newsletter
The month of June has us remember D-Day (on the 6th); two members of my Rotary Club were part of that historic event. Another acquaintance was with the 82 Airborne Paratroopers who landed earlier that morning. And, Fathers’ Day (the 22nd )…what will be your special treat?
Adding on to thoughts of our recent 10th Class Reunion (by Zoom) when the speaker was BHS Athletic Director, Steve Jenkins. A comment was made about “major” and “minor” sports…during our days. Enclosed is a photo taken at an awards assembly of letters being presented by Coach Pete Wilson to cross country team members. And, a photo of the letter that our mom’s sewed onto letterman’s sweaters. Football, basketball, etc. got letterman’s jackets!
As an aside, my mom was so unhappy with the hand-me-down (ratty) uniforms for cross country that she attended a School Board meeting to complain. As a result, we all got new uniforms, albeit just a shirt and shorts…hardly a budget breaker!
Wally Riker tracked how many times our last Reunion link (by Zoom) was actually opened, and when he shares it, I’ll pass it on.
Bob Cockefair was a huge help in helping us locate Bill Hums obituary, herein enclosed. And AD Steve Jenkins included this photo of “Whip” during Steve’s presentation to us.
Last month we’ve heard from Armond D’Agostino, Carol Hill; Kay McCormick, Pat Howlett, Joan Meekin, Claire Reiss; Adie Harris, Marion Jago, Ann Zimmerman, Bob Alvine, and Wally Riker.
Our next Zoom reunion is Friday, November 6, 3 pm east coast time. Wally Riker will again begin at 2:30 pm for those who may need help logging on. We’ll send out the link on the 5th so hopefully it won’t be lost/forgotten. Some of you have requested telephone reminders.
