July 2026 Newsletter

How will you be celebrating our Nation’s 250th anniversary of its founding on July 4?  Do you realize that at 88 years old, we’ve been around long enough to witness 35% of these!

Don Moore reminds us, on the occasion of our graduating from dear old BHS 70 years ago, that he was our class Valedictorian, and as such, addressed us using the motif from Proverbs “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”  Anne Zimmerman promises to look for a tape she may have of our Class’s 41st Reunion, in 1997.

Many of our coeds were part of the Scotties drill team, under the direction of Edith Russell.  Below are photos of one of them (Anne Lavery) and of their exhibition in Madison Square Garden during half time of a Knicks game.  And, a photograph of the boys during lunch.

Wally Riker tracked how many times our April 24 Reunion link (by Zoom) was actually opened (13 attended):

It appears there were 21 views and 5 downloaded it.  Those that viewed it only 3 were under 10 minutes the rest a half hour and 3 or 4 watched the whole video. It was interesting that 5 downloaded it. No one added their email so we would know who it was.

Last month we’ve heard from Armond D’Agostino, Kay McCormick, Pat Howlett, Joan Meekins, Lucy Hanson, Ginny VanZile, Don Moore, Pat Coolick, Ann Zimmerman, Bob Alvine, and Wally Riker.

We may have lost Margie Laidig, as the telephone number we had for her is no longer in service, and while the email address goes through, a letter to her home (in The Villages) has gone unanswered.  Likewise, a letter to what we thought was a good address (Manor, Texas) for Virginia Power, it was returned “unable to forward”.

Lew Kain reports that his wife of 14 years, Chris, has passed.  And, we located an Obituary on Angela Natalie.

Our next Zoom reunion is Friday, November 6, 3 pm east coast time.  Wally Riker will again begin at 2:30 pm for those who may need help logging on.  We’ll send out the link on the 5th so hopefully it won’t be lost/forgotten.  Some of you have requested telephone reminders.

PS: From Annie Zimmerman: “The secret of getting ahead is getting started”.
